Early Dawn Revisited...

My lovely customer sent me a picture
of her dishes with her new runner!
What a lovely surprise!  I am thrilled that it
worked out so well.

Still working on my Sea Glass shawl...twisting fringe
which takes forever...Took some work to
the local gallery, did some errands,
took deep breaths of fresh air,
came home to take a nap.
Now it's takeout time for some pulled pork,
a movie with Alex and Victoria,  some wine.
Happy Friday!

Obsessing over the Sea...

I've been obsessing over the ocean lately...Thinking of the Outer Banks, NC and Italy, and the beach where I grew up in CT.

Must be cabin fever.

In any case it is informing my color decisions.
The scarves I'm working on are called "Beach Glass."  Visions of walking along the sand, looking for treasures, hearing the gentle lap of waves,

feeling the wind off the water,

Smelling the salt air...

Already designing the next scarf..."Seascape"

We had a bout of colic this past weekend with Dommie.  Of course it was a Sunday.  Gave him a banamine shot in the morning but when he still wasn't feeling better I called the vet.  He came around 5 pm and gave him another one but IV this time.  Finally put him in his stall by 10 pm and he was looking much more alert.  He hadn't pooped all day.  He was pawing, lying down, getting up, lying down, looking sad.  It was 0 degrees.  But by morning he was good.  So distressing.  All the next day I checked on him about every 20 minutes out the window as well as brushing him and talking to him.  Now he is, of course, filthy but happy and eating.  Oh, and pooping.

That white patch of snow behind Dom is our pond.  It is beautiful up there but the snow is very slippery...too slippery for riding or walking.

So all is well...

Early Dawn Table Runner...

Finished up a runner for a customer today.  She wanted one like the Early Dawn scarf but wider and shorter and thicker.  It actually turned out wonderfully well.  She wanted 14" x 68" so I put on a warp 16" and wove 78".  Then I washed it in hot water and set it to dry.  When it was almost dry it was 14 1/4" and three inches too long so I threw it in the dryer.  Then I cut out some of the weaving for a couple of inches and twisted the fringe and it is PERFECT!  I'm so happy!  I love it when a plan comes together!! :)

Washed, dried, twisted and done!
Plus we had a chat with Noah in Australia the other night.  We skyped for 1 1/2 hours.  It was just like having him at the kitchen table!  There wasn't the usual delay where your mouth moves and then several seconds later the sound comes out.  And I sat far enough away without my glasses on so I couldn't really "see" the mini me in the corner (very disconcerting that mini me).  Gary and Noah solved all the world's problems so that is taken care of and I totally enjoyed the visit!  Now we have to set up to skype with Adam and Alicia and Ava.  Or maybe just Ava.  That would be good.

Meanwhile Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  We are having a quiet night at home...Project Runway is on so...

Spring Morning Scarf...

I know...I changed the name of the scarf.  Actually wove three of these.  One for the local gallery and two for Etsy.  Gary actually did the video.  I'm so proud of him...he was nervous.  Usually his pictures from my camera come out totally blurry.  I think he moves when he clicks the shutter...I don't know.  He swears he doesn't.  I took the stills...

Gary's Video!

Totally warm today.  Snow sliding off the barn has the horses spooked! and I have to bring in soups that have been left outside to freeze.  Looks like I'll have to clean out the fridge to make room!

Noah is going to skype tonight!  YAY!  Can't wait to see him!

Nemo Aftermath...Noah Update...

Well, time for the plow guy...Not as much snow as the last storm but the drifts are way over my tall barn boots!  At least Gary shoveled a path to the bird feeder and the horses.  And the sun is shinning and the world is beautiful!

The fires are going and we are all snug.  Off to a dinner/dance for the Arts Council tonight.  By that time we will be able to get out of the driveway!

Oh update on Noah...there are jumping fire ants, land leeches and huge huntsman spiders which are, in his words, "everywhere."  They went to a Buddhist retreat for two days and were sitting outside trying to meditate while "millions" of mosquitoes were biting and leeches were crawling on his ankles.  Not conducive to a trance I'm thinking.

Almost finished my scarves...maybe today I can get them off and wash them.  Yesterday I did nothing.  Absolutely nothing.  Bliss.  Followed by guilt.  What is up with that?!!

New Beginnings Scarf...

I actually have an empty loom!  So after running errands this morning and making sure all the fires were going, feeding the birds, checking the horses and going for my check-up, I started a cotton warp.  I have so many cones of cotton and I'm tired of weaving towels so I've been working on making scarves/shawls out of the cotton with tencel as the weft.  Normally I do stripes of color, one color, then another.  But here I've blended colors, sometimes using three and sometimes using two at a time.  When I warp I'm going to decide if I will keep them as they are or regroup them slightly.  So my new warp.  Enough for three scarves, 14 inches wide.

Warp about half done...

 Warp about 9 inches wide

 Some of the cones

Ready to be tied up and transferred to the loom.

But now I'm tired and have to re-check the fires and think about getting the horses in and cooking some dinner...good thing I don't clean or I would never get anything done in the winter!

Oh and the check-up was with my nurse practitioner and everything is fine.  I refused a mammogram because I feel like I glow in the dark after all the CT scans and chest x-rays but she was ok with that.

And I set up another triangle class...this time with the local arts council for March 2.  We'll see if they get any interest.

Happy Monday!

Knitted Flowers...

I've made these before but I'm in the mood for some knitting right now.  My brain is whirling with ideas for weaving but I can't seem to focus lately.  Knitting does that for me and making these little pins is therapeutic.  I have lovely hand-dyed threads with bumps and texture just aching to be used.

Add some seed beads...a bit of lace and a pin back.  There.  Maybe I should post the directions in case someone else wants to make these?

Happy Saturday!

Oh yeah...Noah called from Australia...seems like they are visiting little farms right now after surviving the largest cyclone (Cyclone Oswald) Byron Bay has ever seen.  Anyway, under every farm porch it seems there is a resident python who comes out to keep the little critters in check...WHAT???!!
