Painted Mountains Scarf...

I got on pinterest last week and saw this amazing, amazing photograph of these painted mountains in Iceland by Marten Larsson and fell in love...

So of course out came my threads...

Onto the warping reel...

and weaving...

Too bad I do not have time to finish this one before I go but at least I got it on and can see what it is looking like!  Tomorrow morning Noah and I are renting a car to drive to Syracuse and meeting my sister Meg and her partner Darlene for our epic trip to Colorado.  However, I'm thinking ok Colorado is burning AND it is 104 degrees out there...wait, why are were going there???  Oh yeah, brothers and I actually like them.  So I have some reservations but I've never driven across the US before soooo...Here we go!  And I have my kindle, and knitting, and I'm trying to sneak in my potholder loom with loopers if they all fit in somewhere...

I'll take pictures!  And be back in two weeks!

Daily Life...

I have some catching up to do here!  Went to Faith's summer home in Otis, MA for her birthday...Oh this view...I want to live here...
We celebrated life, went to the baby shower for Alicia and Adam and met up with Noah to drive up to NH to my Mom's to take her car.  A 20 yo Honda in amazing condition!

So now we all have wheels, though Gary drove down to Cortland, NY yesterday for his regional conference and his car died down there.  We will find out how it is today and if he has to jettison it I will drive down and pick him up.  Now if only we had air conditioning in ANY of these cars!  sigh...and it has been in the 90s.  I'm totally wilted.

However, I have been weaving in front of a big fan.  I'm still in love with this texture and using my many cones of cotton thread.  Just finished yet another one and will take pictures maybe today after I twist up the fringe.

Just posted this one on Etsy...

So...I went out last night to do the horses...Gary has been doing them for me while I sulk in the heat.  And when I took off Dommie's fly mask I noticed that his eye is all swollen.  We found out a couple of months ago that he is blind in his left eye and maybe he didn't blink and something got in it...or a fly bite.  I don't know.  I wiped it with a cool wet cloth but now I have a call in to the vet.  For now I'm keeping them in during the day and letting them out to eat at night.  The biting flies are hateful this year!

AND next Wed. I an hitching a ride with my sister, Meg and her partner, Darlene and we (Noah, too) are all driving to CO to see two of my brothers...Stephen in Ft. Collins and Paul in Boulder.  Big reunion out there on the 4th with cousins and nephews and nieces and Alex is flying out for that.  Too bad I have to leave Gary home...and the dogs...

Ohhhhh!  Adam just sent me a video of the baby's heartbeat!  OMG!  Made me cry.  I miss them so much.

Hope everyone is coping with the heat!!

Cotton Scarves--done!

I'm having fun with these scarves.  Weaving two of the Summer Sorbet and one of the Mountain Mist.  They came out light, airy, textured and drape wonderfully!  Light enough to wrap around like a scarf and wide enough to be a light shawl on a cool summer eve.  I love having all my colors out in my new weaving room!!!  Very inspiring!

Summer Sorbet...cotton warp and tencel weft

Mountain Mist...woven with 100% cotton

 Twisting the fringe

I'm off to my sister Faith's 60th birthday with Noah then Faith and I are going to Holden, MA to a shower for my soon-to-be granddaughter!  We will be skyping (sp??) with DIL Alicia in Hawaii on Sunday!  Then it is off to my Mom's to pick up her car for Noah because she is giving up driving at age 91!  She might regret doing this but right now she sounds relieved that she won't have the responsibility of taking care of her car anymore.  She says she is tired.  Not all my sisters agree with this decision because they feel that her world will get even smaller.  But she has been getting lost lately and forgets how to do things like turn on the windshield wipers or defroster...And Faith called her church and they found a volunteer to take her to mass which makes her happy.  So on to the next phase.  It will be nice to visit with her quietly and let her talk.  She likes that.  Hope everyone's weekend is wonderful!

Summer Sorbet Cotton Scarf Warp

I love the new Mountain Mist scarf and the sett works.  While it is hanging on the line I am warping another one in peachy oranges...one thread up and then one thread down.  I need about 180 threads.

I apologize for the squeak and the TV is on...oh well, real life.  I find this warping process so completely soothing.  Watching the colors build.  My own Tibetan Prayer Wheel.  I have enough length of warp for two scarves here but so far it is only about 7" wide.  I need at least 11".  Then I can tie it up, chain it, and bring it to the loom for dressing.  Then the winding, threading, sleying...and finally weaving.  Good thing I love what I do.

Mountain Mist Cotton Scarf

Well, I'm just messing around with stuff.  Now that I moved everything and sorted through all my yarns I realized that I have all these fabulous colors in cotton yarn and I will never use them up making towels.  So I wanted to make a wide scarf with stripes and add some texture.  I don't have any variegated cotton so I'm working on adding interest in the texture but I won't really know how it turns out until it is off the loom and washed...probably tomorrow.  Then I will be able to tell if the sett is working (whether it is too tight or too loose), and how much shrinkage there will be.  Right now it is 11 inches wide and I will probably weave to 80 inches or so.  We'll see...I'm having fun!

Winding the warp on my warping mill...

Here's hoping!
I hope to end up with a scarf that is fine for both men and women though most of my customers are women...I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
